Webinar: Cultural Perspectives and Elder Abuse – April 28th
April 28 @ 5:00 pm - 11:00 am PDT
Elder abuse continues to affect older adults across all racial, ethnic and cultural groups. A more comprehensive understanding of the prevalence within various ethno and socio-cultural groups warrants further discussion. EAPO is pleased to host this first, in a Series of Webinars that explores the complexities of Elder Abuse issues, their impacts and barriers to prevention within diverse communities (including SE Asian, European and South American in future sessions)
On April 28th, a panel of South Asian community leaders from across Ontario, will join EAPO to share their insights into the nature of growing up and growing older within their communities. Speakers will share their own unique experiences, challenges, barriers and identified cultural risk factors (like language, immigration status, social isolation, financial or emotional dependencies for example) which can contribute to experiences of elder abuse.
Guest panelists will:
– Share their own perspectives about socio-cultural issues
– Suggest approaches, service providers/care professionals should consider, to effectively respond to and support suspected cases of elder abuse or neglect
– Provide a view into what resources exist to help and serve the community
– Highlight awareness and prevention strategies that support healthy aging, restore respect and mitigate the risks of increased vulnerabilities and the impact on the safety and quality of life among South Asian older adults
This event will take place at 10am PST (1pm EST).
