Connecting with Connie - Manitoba Association of Seniors Centres (MASC)

program image
Organization: Throughout Manitoba, multi-purpose seniors’ centres serve as community focal points where older adults come together for programs, services, and activities that enhance dignity, support independence, and encourage community involvement. While each centre is community-based and serves local residents, they are part of a provincial network that connects through the Manitoba Association of Seniors Centres (MASC). MASC’s mission is to be a provincial focal point to facilitate communication, networking, and planning among senior centres and raise their profiles. The Association also assists in the development of senior centres and collaborates with other senior serving organizations.   MASC is currently partnering on various projects and initiatives that support and encourage inclusivity of all older adults, such as Age-Friendly Manitoba, and OWSEP – the Older Winnipeggers Social Engagement Project. Another current initiative is a partnership with CJNU 93.7 FM, Nostalgia Radio, on a program called “Connecting with Connie.”   Partner Organization: CJNU 93.7 FM (Nostalgia Broadcasting Cooperative) is a not-for-profit, community service cooperative located in Winnipeg, Manitoba, and dedicated to providing nostalgia music to listeners. Most of its programs are archived and available for streaming on demand, including “Connecting with Connie”.   Program: “Connecting with Connie,” is a daily segment on CJNU featuring Manitoba Association of Seniors Centres Executive Director, Connie Newman. The segment allows Connie and other members of their Seniors Coalition to share information in the community, with a particular focus on older adults. A wide range of topics are covered, such as mobility scooters, wellness, powers of attorney, vaccinations, and much more. These brief segments allow older adult listeners to access important information from the guests being interviewed and the resources and tips provided. And for many older adults, especially those not on-line, radio is a great medium to learn and connect.   For more information, and to listen to some of the “conversations”, click here.
