Heart and Stroke

program image
Description: Heart & Stroke is a leading funder of life-saving research, which has led to breakthroughs such as heart transplant surgery and a revolutionary stroke treatment that cuts deaths by 50%. They empower Canadians to live healthier lives – from preventing and controlling high blood pressure to getting more physical activity. They fight for change that will create better health for all, such as reducing salt in food supply and improving access to stroke rehabilitation. Heart & Stroke leads the fight against heart disease, stroke and related conditions. Together the diseases are still the number one cause of premature death in Canada. Heart & Stroke’s work is driven by collaboration – with their volunteers and donors, researchers, people who have lived experience, healthcare professionals, governments and others. Heart and Stroke current Initiatives include: (1) Online Peer Support Communities for Survivors and Caregivers; a support group open to members from across Canada who are either a heart disease or stroke survivor or for those who are caring for a survivor. Watch the video below for testimonials from the online Community of Survivors. It’s for people with lived experience of heart disease or stroke, caregivers, family members and healthcare providers. (3) Living with Stroke Program *for Quebec residents only (coming soon for the rest of Canada); a free virtual online group learning program designed for individuals with stroke and those who care for them. (English) (French) Heart & Stroke has developed a series of free webinars in French and English for Cardio Vascular disease management. Different topics were offered like self-care, sex and gender differences, rehabilitation, caregiving, heart failure and mental health. Heart & Stroke also advocates for the conditions necessary for all Canadians to live healthy lives free of heart disease and stroke. They've made great strides in the fight against heart disease and stroke; that's the power of advocacy.
