Men's Sheds Canada

program image
Men's Sheds Canada is volunteer-based organization, run by men for men, which facilitates and enables older men to gather, socialize and make new relationships while working on individual projects or group projects, shoulder to shoulder. Men's Sheds Canada encourages the opening of individual Men Sheds or groups of men anywhere in Canada.
At Men's Sheds, men gather within informal groups for camaraderie and fellowship to learn new skills, mentor others, and give back to the community. The goal of Men's Sheds is to combat isolation, anxiety, loneliness and depression within men, particularly older men. The focus of Men's Shed Canada is to improve the emotional well-being, mental health, of older men that may be lonely, isolated, anxious, or depressed. This is done by engaging older men in hands on projects, “health by stealth” educational programs, and giving men an opportunity to ask questions, mentor others, and make intergenerational connections. During COVID-19, individual Sheds are making adaptations to meet while abiding by government restrictions. There are multiple Zoom calls each week in lieu of meeting face to face.
