Transportation Options Network for Seniors (TONS) Inc.

TONS is a not for profit organization that informs and educates Manitobans on the transportation options that promote quality of life and aging in place. As a Provincial organization, TONS works with older adults, caregivers, rural transportation providers, service providers, health care professionals, and policy development groups by providing information, resources, networking and education events that focus on all aspects of transportation in Manitoba. Transportation is crucial to the health and well-being of older adults in our Province and we want to ensure that throughout the spectrum of an older person’s life, they will be able to move around freely without barriers so they can have the opportunity to age in place wherever they are in Manitoba.   COVID was a great opportunity for TONS to modify and shift our work in the community to an online platform, which has increasingly enabled us to connect with service providers and various stakeholders throughout the Province who would have normally been limited in participation by distance to travel to events. COVID unfortunately has highlighted the many transportation inequities throughout our Province and especially as it pertains to accessing health services such as testing and vaccines for the pandemic. Manitoba has such a diverse landscape and living in rural Manitoba can mean traveling great distances to any type of large city centre. Our priorities and initiatives may have changed throughout the year, but we are still dedicated to ensure older adults have the quality of life they deserve.   For more information, click here.
