Sport Support Program fund: Indigenous governments, communities, and not-for-profit Indigenous organizations

Stream Three of the Sport for Social Development in Indigenous Communities (SSDIC) component of the Sport Support Program funds Indigenous governments, communities, and other not-for-profit Indigenous organizations, as well as non-Indigenous not-for-profit delivery organizations in authentic partnership with an Indigenous organization(s) to deliver sport activities that meet community identified needs and priorities of Indigenous women, girls, and 2SLGBTQI+ communities in Canada.

$3.75 million is available* to provide opportunities for Indigenous women, girls, and 2SLGBTQI+ people to participate in meaningful sport activities that support one or more of the Stream Three social development goals. Drawn from the Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls (MMIWG) Calls for Justice, the Stream Three social development goals focus on:

  • physical and mental health
  • suicide prevention
  • sexual trafficking awareness and prevention
  • safe and healthy relationships
  • sexual positivity (2SLGBTQI+)

*Uniquely for fiscal year 2023-2024, $1.25 million will be made available to the 13 Provincial/Territorial Aboriginal Sport Bodies (PTASBs), as recognized by the Aboriginal Sport Circle, to continue and/or implement Indigenous women, girls, and 2SLGBTQI+ programming.

Who can apply

To be eligibleFootnote 1 for the $2.5 million* portion of the 2023-2024 funding, your organization must:

  • be an Indigenous government, Indigenous community, not-for-profit Indigenous organization, or a non-Indigenous* delivery organization in authentic partnership with an Indigenous organization(s)
  • be undertaking projects in/for Indigenous communities that create opportunities for Indigenous women, girls, and 2SLGBTQI+ people to participate in sport activities that support one or more of the social development goals
  • have a letter of support from the leadership of the Indigenous communities involved, if applicable
  • have organizational financial statements for the past fiscal year, where applicable

*Note: Up to 25% of this $2.5 million Stream Three funding will be available for non-Indigenous delivery organizations.

Uniquely for 2023-2024, to be eligible for the $1.25 million portion of the funding, your organization must:

  • be a recognized PTASB, that is a provincial/territorial organization, association or corporation that carries the mandate, as recognized by the Aboriginal Sport Circle, to represent the sport and recreational interests of the largest percentage of Indigenous peoples in that province or territory
  • demonstrate in its proposals the engagement and collaboration with Indigenous women, girls, and 2SLGBTQI+ peoples’ groups or representatives in the community

  • email us for the application package
  • meet all eligibility requirements and submit a complete application form before the deadline to be considered for funding.
