Canadian Seniors Planning Day of Action on Climate on Oct. 1, 2024
Across the country this summer in small towns and big cities, groups of seniors are coming together to tackle a social issue that affects us all – our changing climate. And they have big plans to make their voices heard on National Seniors Day, Oct. 1, 2024.
“Many seniors are frightened by unnatural disasters that are happening more often,” says Rolly Montpellier, one of the organizers of Seniors for Climate. “They look ahead to their kids’ and grandkids’ futures and see more disasters unless governments take action now to limit fossil fuels. Later is too late.”
Seniors for Climate, a coalition of six organizations, now has 50 communities signed up and planning events on Oct. 1. “Expect flash mobs, rallies, rocking chair teach-ins – the issue is serious but we’ll also have fun,” Montpellier says. “We invite everyone, including community based seniors serving organizations, to come out and get involved.” Visit seniorsforclimate.org to find out how you can engage in community-based activities focused on climate.
