[Research Opportunity] Preventing male suicide through social connection and mutual help
Title of Project: Preventing male suicide through social connection and mutual help
Principal Investigator: Dr. John Oliffe
What is this study about?
We are interested in learning about men’s perspectives and experiences of peer support and mutual help for mental health challenges. Findings from this research will be used to inform the development of a novel peer support resource for men. To participate in this study you will be asked to:
- Complete a brief demographic questionnaire
- Take photographs to depict your perspectives and experiences of peer support and mutual help for mental health challenges
- Participate in an one-on-one photovoice interview via Zoom
Who can participate in this study?
To participate in this study we require that you:
- Self-identify as a man
- Are 18+ years of age
- Reside in Canada
- Speak and understand English
How much time will it take?
All aspects of the research will take place online. In addition to the time required to take your photographs, the individual Zoom photovoice interview will take approximately 1 hour.
How will participating impact me?
There are no immediate risks from participating in this research. You will receive a $100 CAD Amazon e-gift card for participating in the Zoom interview. Other potential benefits can result from being able to “voice” one's opinion and describe experiences, as well as the potential to help inform the development of programs and campaigns targeted at men’s mental health promotion and suicide prevention.
