This manual showcases a range of tangible ways that food banks can evolve beyond emergency food provision. Many suggestions are low cost, including changing policies or procedures toward healthier food, and getting staff, volunteers, donors, and the public onside in making a shift in thinking. It offers key suggestions for improving food banks’ ability to address food security and improve the experience for food bank members, such as pairing with other community food programs (e.g., a community meal) and reducing the need for line ups.
