[Tool] Cost of Ageing Calculator

resource image

Preparing for the future means planning for the changes that ageing can bring. The Cost of Ageing (COA) Calculator is designed to help Canadians better understand how living costs may evolve in later life.

As people age, financial needs and expenses can shift significantly due to health, living arrangements, lifestyle and broader economic conditions—factors that traditional retirement planning often overlooks. The COA Calculator helps address these gaps by providing detailed estimates of potential costs, including food, housing, transportation, home care and day-to-day living expenses, tailored to different circumstances across Canada.

The COA Calculator allows users to explore how ageing-related costs vary based on region, health status, living arrangements and homecare needs across three retirement living standards — modest, moderate and comfortable.

The Cost of Ageing (COA) Calculator is a not-for-profit research resource independently developed by the National Institute on Ageing (NIA) at Toronto Metropolitan University to support research, policy analysis, education and informed public discussion about ageing in Canada.
